Management of health and safety can be made simple if you stick to our 10-point plan:
- Ensure a senior manager / manager is responsible for health and safety and accountable to the Board on all health and safety matters
- Record all work activities conducted by the business and prioritise in order of risk
- Complete risk assessments for all work activities
- Prepare a documented library of policies and procedures for all work activities undertaken
- Develop and deliver training sessions for employees to ensure competence when undertaking work activities
- Communicate risk assessments, policies and procedures to all employees and ensure they are accessible
- Monitor work activities being undertaken to ensure compliance with agreed standards of work
- Review all documentation especially when work activities change or after an accident / near miss
- Regularly audit all of the process above to ensure continual improvement in health and safety performance
- Relax! - If you do all the above then you probably don’t have anything to worry about
